TreatmentsUntil the true cause(s) of autism is better defined, the treatments for autism will be widely varied. The most widely accepted form of treatment is a variety of early intervention speech, language, occupational, behavioral and social therapies. Some parents, after careful review with the support professionals they put in place, may choose medications to help lower anxiety or other behaviours in order to maximize the effectiveness of the various types of therapy. The key point is that the best treatment program for an autistic child is one that is reviewed by professionals and parents and updated regularly as the child develops. It should be multi-faceted and thereby address the various needs of the child. There is no one treatment program that works for all autistic kids.
